Here's a new little feature I'm doing to keep people here between issues. Professor K's Top Ten, every week I'm gonna post my top ten of a certain thing. After that you can post your own, critique mine, and get the conversation flowing!
First up: Video Games
10. Sonic Adventure 2: First off, many people liked this game, but not many loved it. I'll admit, it was filled with flaws and problems, but the storyline and the graphics, and the overall feeling I get from this game is rarely matched. the end reduces me to tears... (jk)
9. Final Fantasy 7: I have never beat this game. However, it is obvious just by watching someone play it now in 2004 that it has had an enormous influence on almost every genre of gaming. Don't believe me? Try imagining a world without Chocobos.
8. Starcraft: The first Real-time Strategy that really, in my opinion worked. It's fun, not too lame, and not too realistic, and it never gets boring. Another huge influencer.
7. Mario 64: I've been playing this one recently. It is by far, the best platformer in existence, maybe it's not the best graphics, storyline, or even gameplay, but it has spawned so many rip-offs, take-offs and immitations, and it still reigns supreme. Mario has so many moves, and so much effort went into the game. Pure genius.
6. Metal Gear Solid: I'm gonna sound like a big nerd here (if I don't already) and say that when MGS came out, it turned table of video gaming completely. It was smart, tough, stunning, and most of all, fun. I honestly believe it was the game that made video games in general become more mainstream. And never has hiding from hounds been more easy than with that kickass cardboard box.
5. Phantasy Star Online:Another innovator game. The first console MMORPG it was perfect. Join up with friends, kill alot of ugly creatures, and get money and loot from them. Keep training until finally someone looks up to you. Thats as simple as it gets, yet it works. Now, thanks to PSO and it's mother company SegaNet (obviously part of sega) We can enjoy hundreds of MMO games, system wide, especially XboxLive.
4. Splinter Cell: Maybe some people disagree with me on this one, but let me explain: There comes a point in every medium where a seriousness, and thickness in devolopment must occur. Splinter Cell Was the first game not too lazy to make curtains that move when you touch them, and realtime lights so when you walk in front of them, shadows actually appear. Splinter Cell was the game that took Video Games, and put them on the first steps to Video Worlds. Plus it was fun.
3. Halo: This, in my opinion is a perfect game. It's realistic. It's beautiful. And most of allm you actually feel like your fighting for something, with other people. Maybe it's the music, or the warthog (you mean puma?) or the wonderful ennemy AI, but it's got something.
2. Sonic Adventure I'm a little Biased, because I am obsessed with sonic, but It truely is an amazing game. It's got great graphics (for it's time) it's got great gameplay and it's got a great, great ,great story. That is all.
NUMBER ONE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME: Jet Set Radio/ JSRF Sure, you can have you're groundbreakers, and your revolutionary games. In a way the Jet Set series is revolutionary, they began Cel-Shading. But when you get down to it, isn't the best game, a game that's *fun*? JSRF has been a wonderful experience for me, it's fun beautiful, and if you look past all the cheesiness, it has an amazingly good story (not the most original, but it gets the point across well)
I think JSRF is infact, the best game of all time. But maybe it's not because of the gameplay, maybe it's because of the amazing Style, Originality, and Taste that it adds to the gaming world.
